«A modern twist to tradition»

In the center of Oslo stands the old customs building from 1926. The building is a typical example of a public service structure from its time, associated with the Customs Authority, and holds both cultural and architectural historical value. For a long time, this was the only customs station in the country that wasn't connected to a port, instead serving the railway.

Drawing from its history, the three dining venues on the first floor have been developed with different train-related concepts, inspired by the train car, the machinery, and the station building.

As the station’s small café, the dining concept "Waffl" is located on the corner of the building, facing Annette Thommessens Plass.

Like the building itself, which has been completely renovated into a modern space with great ambitions while respecting its history, Waffl offers a modern twist on the otherwise traditional waffle.

In line with the building’s concept of lasting primary materials, the floor is a green, cast-in-place terrazzo. The ceiling features an acoustic plaster set between beams to ensure good sound quality while maintaining a smooth, cohesive appearance, just as it has always been. Simple furniture fills the space, with elements like a custom-designed counter and seating bench.

Replicas of the original pendant lights from the building's early days have been recreated, adding historical references and a cozy atmosphere to the space.
